Problem statement and how the Accessible Innovation solves the problem.
Thanks to Accessibility Checker you will be able to see whether the content you have created conforms to the latest web accessibility standards, either those devised by the World Wide Web Consortium (WCAG) or the US Government standards (Section 508). All that with just a few mouse clicks. It is built upon three key elements: user interface optimized for quick problem solving, flexibility, allowing you to use the accessibility checking engine of your choice and the Quick Fix feature, allowing you to eliminate common problems fully automatically.
Tell us who is the target audience and how the accessible innovation will benefit them. Please specify the different target audiences groups and provide numbers and statistics of your current clients as well as what is the potential number of people that the innovation can impact and empower:
Content creators, marketing staff, administrative staff etc. Accessibility Checker is created for all people professionally dealing with creating online content, but having no knowledge of HTML nor A11y standards. We don't want these professionals to adjust to a software solution - this tool helps these people avoid web accessibility issues in the content they produce, without knowing HTML.
How is the accessible innovative solution different from current practices or ways of solving the problem?
It is the first tool that enables you to check any accessibility issues in your content and fix them in real-time, before the content goes live on your website. No knowledge of HTML needed.
How is the accessible innovative solution new, different or unique in terms of the technology or implementation?
- Accessibility Checker is focusing on maximally simplified A11y tuning for content authors without a need to know HTML / WAI-ARIA standards.
- It introduces Quick Fix feature which simplifies accessibility fixes, making the process much easier and faster for the authors.
- The UI is simple and intuitive - appealing to users with zero technical knowledge of web accessibility issues.
How do you get the innovative solution to reach the target audience? Please elaborate on the your go to market strategy and which geographies do you currently work in and what are your future plans for marketing your innovation.
We are currently working globally providing Accessibility Checker as a part of our services connected with WYSIWYG / rich text editor implementation. Since we're a small Open Source company we mostly rely on inbound marketing and sharing best practices of current implementations.
What is the potential impact of the innovative solution on the lives of the target audience? Please elaborate by providing statistics of the current impact and the potential impact.
The potential impact of the solution is huge and it touches both audiences - the user of the A11y Checker (content creator) as well as audience reading the content (consumer). It also provides a safety guarantee for all companies using A11y Checker that their services will be accessible to their clients and will comply with all legal recommendations. The product is very young, but so far we were able to attract such entities as The Government of Netherlands, United Nations and Digital Insight.
Stories of how the Innovation has touched lives.
Government of the Netherlands is committed to providing online information that is user friendly, accessible, well designed and findable. Initial tests done with Accessibility Checker for CKEditor allowed for detection of accessibility issues and improvement of the accessibility of websites in a fast and reliable way.
As a part of their project "Just Accessible" at least 30 software developers that support over 50% of the decentralized government websites (app. 250 websites) have signed an agreement to implement the Accessibility Checker. Also a large number of suppliers for central government websites have signed in and the Accessibility Checker will also be implemented in central government platforms, which host over 500 websites.
