Problem statement and how the Accessible Innovation solves the problem.

Generally Hearing Challenged Children who are below 6 years cannot express their views to their caretaker or to their teacher because of their inability to learn sign language or lip reading language as of elders because they are so young.So to provide a solution to this problem we came up with an accessible device called Wireless Communication Device For Hearing Challenged people.Actually this device is very flexible for them to use.

The device has several images displaying the basic necessities of the user and switches are placed beneath each image.The user expresses his feeling by touching one of his required switches. It works in two modes.First the user should switch on the device and they should select the mode.

First Mode: When the caretaker is nearer to the user,it provides their needs as audio message by using voice recorder and play back circuit based on the selected switch and also displays the message in LCD for their acknowledgement that what message was spoken out.

Second Mode: When the caretaker is away from the user,it sends their need as text message to the caretaker's mobile by using GSM module based on the selected switch and also displays the message in LCD for their acknowledgement that what message was sent.

According to the World Federation of Deaf(WFD),approximately 66 percent of deaf people live in developing countries,where people around them are rarely familiar with their needs.Even though majority of the deaf people use sign language in their daily lives.Sign language may not be effective to communicate with everybody especially for children. Another major problem these challenged children face is the lack of positive deaf role models who can communicate their needs successfully.

How is the accessible innovative solution different from current practices or ways of solving the problem?

The existing systems are :

  • Speaking Micro controller Device.
  • Gesture based speaking Micro controller.

All the existing systems face the challenges like they can’t communicate with the people far away from them. So,our accessible innovative solution Wireless Communication Device provides with the feature that the user can also communicate with the caretaker far away from them.

How is the accessible innovative solution new, different or unique in terms of the technology or implementation?

All the existing systems face the challenges like they can’t communicate with the people far away from them. So,our solution Wireless Communication Device provides with the additional benefit that the user can also communicate with the caretaker far away from them by sending their selected need as a text message to the caretaker's mobile.It also has Good Ergonomics like the device is designed in a way such that the user’s focus is only on the options and also displaying text messages along with voice using LCD.So they can use the device with an ease.  

How do you get the innovative solution to reach the target audience? Please elaborate on the your go to market strategy and which geographies do you currently work in and what are your future plans for marketing your innovation.

There are many ways that our prototype reach the target audience. Some of them are:

  • CAD Design is done based on the real time parameters.According to this the real time project is built.
  • Making a survey on the existing similar products and analyzing how much the effective cost should be such that it would available to common man.
  • Bringing awareness about the existing technology and the product through social media like FB, Twitter, and providing the working demonstrations on YouTube etc.
  • Bringing up the clients and provide them with the required solutions.

What is the potential impact of the innovative solution on the lives of the target audience? Please elaborate by providing statistics of the current impact and the potential impact.

The potential impact of our innovative solution is high as it gives the full satisfaction to the hearing challenged children to communicate with the people around them. Over 10% of the world’s population – 800 million people – has disabling hearing loss, and if they were to all come together they would be the third largest nation in the world. Current production of hearing aids meets less than 10% of global need. About 1 out of 40 people needing hearing aids have them in developing countries. So our innovative solution of Wireless Communication Device for Hearing Challenged People helps them to communicate with the people around with ease and of the cost available to common man.

Stories of how the Innovation has touched lives.

We have given our device "Wireless Communication Device For Hearing Challenged people" to a child in the deaf and dumb school and we heard that he got attached with the device and carried it where ever he went.Once he went to the wash room which was far away from the school and unfortunately he got locked in the wash room. He started to bang the door but no one heard the sound because it is far away from the school. He got panicked and then started to press the buttons on the randomly and many messages had been sent to the caretaker's mobile.As soon as the caretaker received many messages he started to search for that child every where and soon he found him. From this incident we got an idea to include an another option of "emergency" in the device.
